How to Make a Healthy Lunch

Now that we know from our previous blog post on how to start our day with a healthy breakfast, let us take a look at what makes a healthy and nutritious lunch.  Just as we start our day with a well balanced meal for breakfast, we need to continue our nutritional journey with a healthy lunch.  A healthy and nutritious lunch should include at least three food groups.  Vegetables, fruits, grains, proteins, and dairy our yours for the taking.    Another important topic that needs awareness is using whole foods when possible.  If possible, processed foods should be avoided.  Some whole foods that work well for lunch are fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, whole grains.  Processed that foods that should be avoided are canned foods and deli meats.  Another category, which includes frozen fruits and veggies, hard boiled eggs, and canned tuna are considered lightly processed, and generally acceptable.

Now that we know certain requirements for a healthy lunch.  Let's take a look a some easy ideas.
Wraps are always a great idea for lunch.  They come in many varieties from tuna, veggies, to even turkey.  Opt for Geek yogurt instead of the more fattening mayonnaise.Related image Salads are another popular lunch item.  However, be careful with the fat content you add to your salad in forms of cheeses and dressing.  You should stick with fresh veggies and a light vinaigrette dressing to accompany your protein of choice.  Good luck with your healthy and nutritious lunch!  Mangia!
